There’s been a lot of Drake-and-Meek Mill-beef news flying around. So much, in fact, that if you looked away for a second and got completely lost, you wouldn’t be alone. One should never, however, be behind on one’s rap-feud news, so here’s a quick play-by-play recap of Drake v. Meek Mill, summer 2015.

Above is a track called “R.I.C.O.,” a plucky standout from unofficial Balmain spokesman Meek Mill’s very good new album, Dreams Worth More than Money, in which Drake lends a sparkly guest verse. Things were good at that point, it seems, but they started going south between the two rappers last Wednesday: While Meek’s better half Nicki Minaj was sucked into the social media quicksand with Taylor Swift, the Philadelphia rapper went on his own unexpected Tweetstorm™, writing, “Stop comparing drake to me too…. He don’t write his own raps!” (It’s unclear what prompted it, but it could be because Drake didn’t tweet Meek’s album.) Meek later named Drake’s alleged ghostwriter, Quentin Miller, who denied the charge, although that’s debatable, because, well, I’ll let you listen here. Meek Mill soon apologized, likely because Nicki made him.

Meanwhile, Drake—judicious with his social media use, save for Instagram thirst traps and occasional love letters to Serena Williams—waited. And waited. And waited. Twitter notifications were switched on:

Finally on Saturday, Drake dropped a diss track called “Charged Up,” notable for its laconic tell-tale heart vibe and easy memeability. People joked that Drake made his ghostwriting team stay late Friday night.

Meek was unimpressed, calling the track “baby lotion soft” while joking that Drake definitely wrote that. Meanwhile Drizzy stans unleashed a torrent of YouTube insults debating its merit, arguing that Drake was merely setting the table for something bigger. Everyone thought Meek was going to respond with a track on Sunday or Monday, but that simply turned out to be an advertisement for a sexy house with Nicki—who, it’s worth mentioning, has something of a flirty public history with Drake, though she denies anything ever happened between them.

Then, in the middle of the night on Tuesday, Drake dropped another track called “Back to Back”—a bouncier freestyle notable for the line “Is that a world tour or your girl’s tour?” Accompanying it on SoundCloud is a photo of former Toronto Blue Jays player Joe Carter (below), who hit a home run to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in the ’93 World Series. Clearly, Drake is scary good at the Internet.
So in the end, Meek raised his profile and maybe unintentionally gifted the world two Drake tracks…or maybe the whole thing is an elaborate ruse by the rap Illuminati to sell records, and Drake and Meek are texting each other money bag emoji as we speak.
