Vintage Rolex Sea-Dweller for Sale
Later this month, one of the earliest and rarest vintage Rolex Sea-Dweller watches will be put for sale at auction. It is a reference number 1665 and features one of the earliest serial numbers seen on this reference. It belonged to filmmaker and oceanographer Philippe Cousteau. Cousteau died when he was only 38 years old in a plane crash. His father Jacques is credited with co-developing the first underwater breathing apparatus and drew attention to underwater life in the movie “The Silent World.” The auction house estimates that this watch will fetch around $150,000. This particular Sea-Dweller is extremely rare, Antiquorum said. The stainless steel diver’s chronometer wristwatch features center seconds, helium escape valve, double-red Sea-Dweller logo, date and Rolex Oyster fliplock bracelet. But, this is not the only watch for sale at the Antiquorum auction. Below are some other notable watches for the upcoming sale.
